WijkEnergieWerkt: Learning program Sun on the Roof for sustainable employment
The innovative learning program "Sun on the Roof" is a collaboration between Rotterdam Inclusive and Ledura's experienced mechanics. Through a combination of theoretical modules, practical exercises and real installations, this program enables participants to gain valuable skills and knowledge in the growing renewable energy sector.
How does it work?
With intensive coaching and the opportunity to work for clients, WijkEnergieWerkt rewards participants for their efforts during the apprenticeship programme, either with salary or with practical rewards such as tools and work clothes upon completion.
Through active recruitment in community centres, neighbourhood centres and other social networks near solar roof projects, WijkEnergieWerkt identifies potential participants. As an SROI partner and subcontractor to installers, they work closely with Energie voor Rotterdam to develop collective solar roofs in the city.
What is the goal?
After completing the learning programme, participants have the necessary skills and knowledge to move on to jobs in the energy transition. WijkEnergieWerkt actively supports them in finding jobs, using their extensive network of employers.
With already four successful solar roof installations, all parties involved, especially the enthusiastic participants, are overwhelmed by the programme. The growing demand for solar panels and skilled mechanics in this time of energy crisis has accelerated the growth of WijkEnergieWerkt. With the Rikx grant, the program can be expanded to include 16 new participants, stimulating sustainable employment and life change.
