MBO Career Coach: encouraging MBO students to make a successful transition to work
The MBO Career Coach project was set up by JINC to support MBO students in achieving their education and in the transition from education to work. We want to better prepare and motivate students in terms of expectations, attitude and behaviour for their future work: What is it like in busy work practice? What choices can they make? What will soon be expected of them? What behaviour belongs in work and what behaviour does not? What should they do if they find themselves in difficult situations?
How does it work and what is the goal?
The programme is a combination of training around workforce skills by an expert trainer and coaching by workers from the workplace. The programme is centred around themes important to work practice such as 'Getting to know / Showing Yourself', 'What will you encounter during your internship', 'Choosing', and 'Future'.
Workplace coaches are briefed and trained in advance. They learn from each other through facilitated peer review at the end of each session. The programme has now taken place 3 times at MBO (~130 students) and we would like to expand it together with employers. This way, students can be better prepared for the labour market and employers can meet the employees of the future.
